There has been some exciting news happening throughout the United States in regards to renewable energy. For example, a recent report published by GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) revealed that nationwide solar power capacity grew 76 percent in 2012 compared to the previous year.
As these initiatives continue to gain momentum, we thought it would be worthwhile to take a look at some of the most significant solar projects that have begun operating over the past year or are currently under construction in both California and other parts of the country.
Agua Caliente Solar Project – Located in Arizona’s Yuma County on 2,400 acres of land, this facility features 287 megawatts of solar capacity, which will power approximately 100,000 residences each year. Additionally, it has created more than 1,400 local jobs and has boosted the region’s economy.
Alamosa Solar – This Colorado-based undertaking has been declared the largest high-concentration solar project in the world, providing renewable energy to more than 5,100 homes in the area.
Antelope Valley Solar Ranch One – Once this facility – which is 80 miles north of Los Angeles – is complete, its annual solar capacity will reach 230 megawatts and supply enough electricity for 75,000 houses.
It’s great to see that people throughout the United States continue to better understand and appreciate the benefits of solar.
